Popping grew out of California’s funk style. Recognizable by its rapid muscle contractions that look like spasms, it involves positions and angles that complement the funk musical style. A great pick for a move to the groove performance.

Pioneered by Don Campbell, locking is the most soulful of all the dance forms to have grown out of California’s funk style. It is distinguished by rapid exaggerated movements inspired by club dances and by everyday gestures. A fine choice for a festive and funky evening.

Waacking

Waacking originated with the disco generation. It involves a waving of the arms around the face, followed by the striking of poses, as though the dancer were taking part in a photo shoot. Anything but static, the form’s dynamic movements include jumping, pirouetting and falling to the floor. A nice complement to a fantasy-filled fashion-focused event.

A musical style that was born in the streets Chicago as the disco era drew to a close, the name also belongs to a form of dance characterized by the undulation of the torso as though a wave were passing through the body. A dance style with a trancelike quality to accompany a driving electronic musical beat.
